being sick

BEING SICK. Being in high school you have much responsibility to stay on top of things and not get behind, so being sick doesn’t really mix well with the whole staying on track thing. But recently I have seen the number of people in my class day to day go down and down, and now at this very moment I am sitting on my butt typing this blog sicker than ever.
Over my schools entire winter break I was sick, at work I was constantly poppin cough drops so I didn’t fall to the ground in pain and agony. Okay, I know I’m not that sick but still my throat was killing me. Anyways whatever is going around is not fun at all. When we came back on Wednesday from break I was feeling alright but as the day progressed I just felt more sick and finally when I went home I went straight to bed. Today I started feeling much better after going to the doctor’s yesterday and now I am here to write a guide for you! This is my guide to staying on track while being sick:
1.      DON’T GET BEHIND:           of course you will already be a little behind when you come back all healthy and smiling, but if you were already behind in the first place there won’t be any smiling coming from you. So if you have homework the night you went home sick or homework that was due a few days later get it done so that when you come back you aren’t super behind from the days you already missed.
2.      BE 100% HEALTHY:              do not come back to school a little sick, you will not be able to focus and most likely get either sicker or get sick again, make sure you are getting your sleep and that you are drinking plenty of orange juice! Plus you don’t want to get everyone sick with you!
3.      KEEP FOCUSED:                  when you come back go ask all your teachers or peers what you missed and get started on everything right away so you aren’t super behind! That night when you get home make sure you do as much as you can plus more, it will suck but in the end there won’t be as much stress!
4.      YOU GOT IT!                         Make sure you are not stressing out too much and have some confidence that you can catch up 100% so that way you won’t have any worries or stress!
If you follow those 4 key things you should be fine when you come back to school all healthy. I understand that staying home sick isn’t fun at all, I would much rather be at school then home sick any day. Also when you come back it can be rally stressful, so my key advice is to just not stress too much. (478)

be thankfull

Recently in AP Lang I read an article about being thankful and it really made me think. After I thought pretty long and hard about it I realized America is somewhat crap when it comes to this holiday. We celebrate on Thanksgiving about being thankful for everyone and everything we have in our lives, and then 5 hours later we go shopping for ourselves? Just think about how crazy that sounds. Are we all really coming to that?
Also in the article it talked about how sometimes people get hurt during the so called holiday “Black Friday” and how we have other people being thankful for having just a little bit of food. This is so wrong, so very wrong. I am a strong participant in “Black Friday”, and I do it for the fun, I have never personally seen anyone get injured of die while shopping. I just feel that the author pieced two very different things together.
I do believe that shopping is a bit overrated and now when I think about it, it’s kind of wrong. It is just an American tradition though, I don’t feel like we are being selfish by doing it, also I don’t think we are intending to show or bring off the message that we aren’t thankful. Ironically though it still makes me feel a little bad, I’m not intending to be unthankful but it comes off in a way that I am. Not everyone feels that way I hope.
Every year at the crack of dawn when I go shopping I go for the thrill of it, and I’m speaking for many of the black Friday participants I know of. I am so very thankful for what I have and never look back on that. Maybe next year while I’m shopping I can buy a Christmas present for Toys for Tots and donate it, so maybe someone else can be thankful too. Always be thankful for what you have. (329)

cat fishhhh

Can you imagine having a relationship with someone over the internet for a long period of time and never meeting them or seeing them and when you get the chance they end up not being the person you thought they were but yet a person you talked to with a completely different appearance? On MTV there is a show called “Catfish” , it’s about people meeting other people over the internet that they have never seen face to face and these people get the chance to meet them in real live person and usually they end up being someone completely different. And these people are shocked each and every time!
The creator of the show actually experienced it himself; he fell in love with a girl over the internet that in her facebook profile pictures was a young, skinny, pretty brunette. After about a year they met and she was an older more obese but not fat women, he was shocked and wanted to help others in his place and that’s why he made the show.
Personally I really enjoy the show but there are some things that I don’t like. I think it’s awesome that these people have relationships and all, but if you meet someone over the internet that doesn’t have Skype or doesn’t send any pictures then I don’t see how you can think they are 100% the person they say they are. Also I don’t like how once he comes into the picture suddenly he knows if they are who they say they are or not and all that. Some of the people on the show just aren’t very smart you could say. Other than that I really like the show I think it’s awesome that he helps them find their love even though most of the time it doesn’t turn out that way.
The show made me scared to ever meet anyone over the internet not that I’m looking at all , but I mean can you imagine meeting someone you were in “love” with and they turn out being someone completely different! On the 1st episode I watched this 23 year old girl fell in love with a 23 year old guy model from L.A. who claimed he traveled a lot and wrote cue cards for Chelsea lately, anyway this so called GUY turns up to be a 18 year old GIRl!!!! WHAT THE HECK! WHAT WOULD YOU DO! It’s just so crazy, if you were the person being fake? WHY! I just feel that it is so wrong on so many levels, and rude! These fake people have problems and you should never hide who you are! Ughh sorry this show just gets me going. Overall I really enjoyed this show and would definitely recommend it! (463)

gross,gross,gross

Last Sunday it was one of those rainy & cold days… perfect for going to the movies, Righhhhht. My boyfriend and I decided to go see “The Collector”. I personally didn’t know it was a scary movie, until I started watching, but I soon realized. I really enjoy scary movies but not this one. This movie was very disturbing and gross, period. Neither Mason or I liked it, it was just too continuous, and you could always call out what was going to happen. The movie in general I would rate a 4 out of 10. It was just way to over the top and creepy.
I love scary movies don’t get me wrong, but I don’t enjoy the whole blood and guts and this movies was full of it, even up to the part of hearing bones being crushed (not my favorite sound in the world… let me tell yah). The movie highly reminded me of the “Saw” movies, which also I don’t enjoy watching. They are in general disgusting and really creepy. But I mean at least saw had a purpose, I really have no idea what the purpose of this movie even was.
The background of the movie was about an area where all of these abductions were being done and the numbers of people were going up every day, and not one body was being found or coming about. & then a certain guy’s daughter goes missing and he does whatever he can to find her. Anyway the guy doing everything is keeping these people in little “boxes” in this motel that has been deserted for years in the middle of nowhere; the motel is full of traps and things that can only hurt the people. Overall it was just really weird movie. By the end of the movie there was still no reason or background for the guy doing it. I don’t even know it just kind of sucked in general.
Also it was pretty creepy because who in their right mind would think about a movie like this, that is the real question. It’s weird to think about the people that actually make these so called “scary” movies, and what gives them all their ideas, but that’s another day and another topic. P.S: I really don’t recommend viewing this movie in theaters. (389)

tis the season

There’s always a first for everything, right? Well now being 17 and employed, this will be a bit of a different Christmas for me, considering I can personally purchase presents for my friends and family from my very own pocket. You may be thinking, well wow how dumb, but honestly it means a lot.
I am the youngest of the family of 3 girls so I’ve had to rely on my parents to do all the gifting for everyone from me sense I can remember. Now, this year, when I give someone a gift I will know that it was me that gave them it and I worked for it and everything. I feel like it’s different if you just give a gift from your parents:
You could care less what the person feels about the gift, I mean it doesn’t really matter to me if the person love or hates it because I put none of my time or effort into it. & this year I have already got some of my shopping done and I can honestly not wait to see some people open their gifts and see that it REALLY came from me. It just makes this Christmas better and more enjoying. I guess the saying “the gift of giving” really does mean a lot this Christmas will be better because of it! (227)

communication gone down the drain

Samantha Hunter

Communication gone down the drain

Every day there are changes, some may be big, and some may be small. The introduction of cell phones and the internet have strongly made a huge change over time. Technology in this century is amazing compared to just ten years ago. While there have been very positive aspects of technology there have been very negative ones as well considerably with the use of cell phones. Cell phones at one time were purely used to make phone calls but in today’s society they are used for much more than that. This overuse of cell to cell communications is having a negative effect on the way humans communicate when it comes to interpersonal communication skills.

The first cell phone to be created was in 1917 by a man named Martin Cooper in Japan. Currently in 2012 there are about 6 billion subscriptions, so roughly one for every 86 out of 100 people. Cell phones are very helpful to mankind, they help us communicate with people, use the internet, and now they can even start our cars. The thing with cell phones is that when we txt our friends and have a conversation with them it isn’t a face to face one. The way our society is evolving in terms of communication is at a steep decline. With generations growing up with cell phones they are coming increasingly popular. One thing for sure is that cell phones have changed us, society, friends, and families drastically over the years. All over the world Cell Phones have become a huge part of people’s lives. As computers were once stationary items for research and work use, they are now used for games, Facebook, twitter, online buying, etc. You can virtually do anything you want, and buy anything you want on the computer. Today, Cell Phones have now become a mobile computer at the palms of your hands.

Most humans cannot function without having their Cell Phone with them. If someone leaves his/her phone at home they usually say they feel "naked". Not only do Cell Phones take over learning environments and social events, they are also accused to cause brain cancer. Cell Phones have gone from being a means of talking in case of emergencies or questions to causing fatal car accidents due to people sending a text message with the content "LOL". In today’s society with texting and cell phone games, people rarely every spend quality family time anymore, and many accidents and problems are caused because of Cell Phones. By having pretty much everything at someone’s fingertips on their phone, overtime people have become lazier and less likely to verbally communicate with others. To me it’s just sad that our society would interact through Facebook, and text messaging, instead of face to face. Sometimes, having all that technology is not as beneficial as some may think. Just twenty-five years ago a telephone was just a telephone, a way to contact people if they happened to be at home when called. (504 words)

what if....

In my last blog I know I went on and on about the weather being all weird. Lately there has been much talk at my school regarding December 21st, 2012 and the weird weather….. sooo it made me think about it. If the world is truly going to end on that day (it most-likely won’t) maybe the weather does have something to do with it, you never truly know. I mean maybe the sun is going to explode or something and we could all burn within a millisecond. But you have to again put the whole “What if” scenario into place again.
When I talked to my mom about it she just kind of gave me the “are you crazy look”. But she did have some good advice. She brought up the fact that if the world ends then you most-likely won’t feel a thing; it would all happen in a blink of an eye. Suddenly earth would be gone and so would all of people with it. She also did the whole whatever happens, happens thing. She probably thinks I’m crazy but I’m mostly just curious.
Also the other day I was talking to some friends about it and we were just thinking of what COULD happen, not saying it ever will. We got really farfetched with things like a zombie apocalypse or deadly virus hitting the entire world. At that point I didn’t even know what to think about, it would just be so beyond this life. We then started talking about what if you survived?! You would have to defend yourself and most importantly began a completely new and different life.
If you’re reading this, you probably think I’m crazy. I’m not saying it is going to happen but I’m just saying a lot of “what if’s”. I know that there have been a lot of predictions about the world ending and such and none have never actually happened to my knowledge. I wonder what other people think though. With December 21st coming soon, I wonder if there are people out there preparing for the world to end! I also wonder when the day comes or before the days if people will commit suicide so they don’t have to go through it. Yes, I know that is very weird to say but in the entire world ending movies you see people kill themselves so they don’t have to endure what it so come.
I’m not trying to creep you out or anything, but just think… What if….? (420)

i'm getting really angry with you mr. weather

Growing up in Iowa I have always gotten the chance to witness the four seasons. But this year things are happening a little differently, currently it being December it has been in the low 60’s and mid 50’s. I just don’t get this, like it seriously doesn’t make sense to me. I mean yah I’m happy about it because it’s nice weather but it’s just really weird and honestly I don’t know what to think of it. Lately it feels like Iowa is on a weather roller coaster. We slowly work up to it being colder and colder, then bam within one day the temperatures are up and its short and tang-top weather.
It being around the holidays, it is generally freezing but nope not this year.  I usually have to prepare myself whenever going outside with putting on my mittens, hat, scarf, and coat. But I haven’t even had to do that once yet. We might not even have a white Christmas, just one without any snow! I don’t know what to do! Last year it seemed like it was constantly snowing but nope not this year. If there is still no snow by Christmas I just don’t know what I will be with myself. It also feels completely wrong to celebrate the CHRISTMAS holiday when it is so warm outside. It just doesn’t really feel like Christmas time. The weather also totally defeats the purpose of drinking hot-chocolate… I mean COME-On.
I must say there are some positives that come along with warm weather though. One would be all the driving, considering most drivers in my city have no idea what they are doing and completely suck at driving & the fact that I’m a new driver and snow kind of scares me in that department. Another thing that would be nice is with all the shopping going on, you don’t have to dread walking outside so much. (That sounds like an American typed that last bit, lazy, lazy, and lazy) Other than those reasons I don’t see much good coming out of the whole weather change. But wait, watch sense I just said that and complained about it, we are probably going to get hit with a tonnnn on snow. (I wish) Well whatever happens, happens I guess. (381)

falla la la la la la

CHRISTMASSSSSS. You definitely know it’s the best time of the year… when 25 days of Christmas on ABC Family begins, and last night that moment happened. Yes it did. Christmas is right around the corner and I am soooo ready for it.  Whereever I go I hear all the Christmas songs and see all the lights. I even decorated my room! Christmas is a time of giving and it makes me oh so happy.
I haven’t begun shopping yet, but I better get started soon because it’s going to start getting crazy out there! I love getting gifts for people and finding the perfect one for them. During Christmas time everyone is just so happy and full of joy.
Every year in student government we get a grant of money and get to go shopping for people that don’t have enough money to shop. It is awesome knowing that even if you aren’t well off, you can have an awesome Christmas and everyone can be happy. I love shopping for these families and this year I am hoping to be able to deliver them and see how happy the parents are. It’s really awesome to be a part of it!
Christmas again is one of the best times of the year! Maybe this Christmas you can do one small thing to impact someone else’s Christmas and make it better! (230)

black friday.... period

In my family Black Friday is a ritual almost, every year we always get ready to go! The women (girls) in the family always make a plan and we all go do our business. We tend to take black Friday very very seriously. You do not want to mess with us.
This year however was a little different because of the fact that all of the stores were opening a lot earlier than usual. None of us were very happy about it because our thanksgiving dinner starts at 6:00 so we are done by 7:00 and usually rest it up and play card games and have fun for the rest of the night, but this year we had to go earlier than usual so we had a lot of planning to do. Before we ate dinner we all sat down at the table and mapped out the places we wanted to go to, then we made a list of which place we will got first, second, and so on. Last we all made our own list of what we needed and wanted at the stores. We then ate and rested up because Black Friday can be a verrryyyy stressful event.
During Black Friday you usually tend to see the worst of people, I narrow it down to about 3 types of people:
Person #1: Devil Shopper: the shopper that tends to be the rudest and most selfish. They tend to budge in line, push people if they are in their way, very determined to get what they want ( and yes, even if it involves taking it out/stealing it out of someone else’s cart). Mainly when you come about one of these types just ignore them and stand your ground, don’t let them get away with it!
Person #2: Caffeine Runner: this is usually the shopper that a) drank four monsters before coming shopping or b) is still drunk. These shoppers are my favorite, they are usually hilarious to watch and are very excited and jumpy, they tend to run and never stop talking, when they shop they aren’t very determined but they have fun all in all.
Person #3:  The Guy: this person usually doesn’t really care about shopping, yet they get stuck with all the crappy things, like carrying bags or getting the car and pulling it around, or the worst saving a spot in line. When you see them they are usually never happy and sometimes grumpy, I try to stay away from them. All in all I feel very bad for them.
My family is mainly full of the type two people, we go to have a good time and still get what we want, and if we don’t we don’t, and yeah it sucks but we move on, we make it a ritual and its one of my favorites. (474)

shine bright like a diamond

Recently my school had Thanksgiving break, and let me tell yah it was definitely much needed. It was so nice to have an entire week of no homework and being able to sleep. I now can’t wait until Christmas break! WHOOO HOOOO.
This Thanksgiving at my house was kind of a big one. My sister Jayme is 23 years old and she got engaged. It was funny because everyone knew about it except her. Her boyfriend Shawn of 2 years talked to me and my mom for advice. Overall Shawn went through a lot to get everything perfect and done.
First he had to figure out the ring. He went alone the first time, just to see what he was looking for exactly and which ones looked perfect to him. The second visit he took his sister and they narrowed it down a bit, too about 5 or 6 rings. On the last visit he took me and we made the final decision. It was so exciting and made me want to cry just being there and knowing how happy my sister will be! The rings that he had were so shiny and sparkly. He knew that my sister would want something big and that’s exactly what he picked out! With the final ring we made sure it was perfect and got all the ring sizes done, they told us that he could pick it up within a week or so. When he bought her ring I could tell how happy he was, and when I asked him if he was nervous he just shook his head and told me “No, because this is what I want”.
Second he had to figure out HOW!  At first he wanted it to be around a holiday, because Jayme had mentioned she wanted family around when he did it. When he asked my mom what to do she told him Thanksgiving because all in all he is thankful for her. Shawn thought about it for a few weeks and decided Thanksgiving it was! He planned that before we had our dinner with the whole family, he would break the news to her. Well as the day started going he became very very nervous, whenever he was about to do it, he wouldn’t. Then his sister and I started writing notes and holding them up in the air at him when Jayme wasn’t looking. Finally he did it, he pretended that he had did something really wrong and told Jayme that he was sorry and that she would be really mad at him, then right away he got on one knee and did it!! It was awesome and she was ecstatic! She couldn’t stop smiling the rest of the day!
Jayme will never forget this Thanksgiving, and within the next year she will be married! It is crazy to think that my OWN sister is getting married but at the same time I am so happy for her. I wonder if she will be a bridzilla or not…. I hope to god not! (509)

breaking amish

For the past few weeks I have been watching the show “Breaking Amish” on TLC and you could say I’m a little hooked, now some of you might know what I am talking about and some probably not so much. The show is basically about a group of Amish people all from different communities that break away from their community and live in “the real world” and do “American” things, the five people on the show all lived in New York for a brief period of time and had the chance to be more American like and do more American things. They experienced the feeling of love, and being able to go out in public with a short sleeve shirt on and it be okay, they weren’t judged as much and were more open to what America has to offer. At the end of the show they go back to their communities and homes to see and decide whether or not they are going to stay part of their community or go live on their own with basically nothing or anyone.
The show in a way almost fascinates me; growing up with my ways of living I have no idea what it would be like to ever grow up with their ways. But then you have to think that you wouldn’t know anything different so in reality it really wouldn’t affect you.
Growing up in an Amish community is a lot different than our everyday ways. I would refer to it almost as growing up with a safety blanket around you at all times. You don’t get to wear what you want, you don’t get to cut your hair or make it different styles and colors, no showing skin or wearing clothing of your choice, no going to movies, cell phones, boyfriends/girlfriends, touching, TV, and ect. Their views come directly from god and they are very strict on their views.
On the show when the people decide to leave their community they take the risk of possibly being shunned, which means everybody including your close family disowns you, and most important if you decide to leave for good, they will never talk to you again and basically pretend you never even existed. Now when I think of that happening that would scare me to death, I have no idea what I would do without my family. Also the Amish people don’t go to high school so they don’t have a diploma which in today’s world is what will get you a job and help you make money. This altogether means that if I were Amish and I left my community I would no longer have family and friends and I would pretty much be homeless. I would get a low paying job and it would be very hard for me to succeed successfully, but if I tried very hard and really wanted it, I could do and say I actually did it.
When I think about these people I honestly think how crazy they are, but they don’t have that choice and they don’t have any other way of living so it’s just normal for them. I give these people big probs because they do a lot and I bet it’s very hard for them. I highly suggest watching the show, you won’t regret doing so. (556)

costumes or naked costumes.....

I know that lately I have making a lot of blogs about Halloween but there are just so many things to talk about! This blog is all about the costumes ranging from little kids to adults! Halloween is a time where you can be whatever you want and make the best of it!
When you’re a baby you have no say in what you want to be, but your mom sure does. Usually they make a good choice and when you’re looking at pictures you get to see just how cute you look and how adorable you were. Now when you’re under 10-12 you basically be whatever cools, so like a witch or a cool cartoon character, or of course a scary monster. But when you’re above say 15-16 you all begin to make bad bad choices, and I’m not saying this to everyone because I know people that dress appropriate. But a lot like to dress up and let half of their ass hang out and boobs exposed……Excuse me but I really DON’T enjoy seeing it and its really not that attractive hunny at least not to me. Some people say that Halloween is a time for girls to dress up like the bad slu* word, but really just stop. I feel like everyone can wear clothing that fits their body and still have just as much of a good time as the girl that dressed up as a slut@y boxer or kitty. So ladies please this Halloween year wear something that fits and actually covers at least some of your body, PLEASE. (264)

& here comes all the sick days

Being that it is fall heading into winter; people are very susceptible for the common sicknesses or viruses. In my school there have been numerous people getting Mono, Whooping Cough, and the common flu. Usually I am the first to come down with it but not this year, I honestly thought this would be the first year I wouldn’t get super sick; I usually get sick all the time at least every other month but lately I haven’t been getting sick all. And to tell yah the truth I was definitely okay with that!
Last night I did my routine homework, and later went to bed. I had a pretty crappy night of sleep, later to wake up with the horrible feeling of sickness. Whenever I get sick, I get little small symptoms before it becomes full blown. This morning my throat was sore, I was super tired, my nose was beginning to become stuffed, and I had that tiny headache that lasted whole entire day. I knew I would get sick at some point! Anyways I have been drinking a lot of liquids and taking pain reliever, whatever I have I want it gone as soon as possible!
If you feel like you are getting sick, you should be aware of a few things. One might be that you’re not washings your hands enough, so throughout that day be as clean as can be. Also it could be due to the fact that you were hanging out with someone that was sick and shared a beverage or food item with them, next time make sure they aren’t sick. Make sure you drink as much fluids that can fit into your body, but make sure they are good fluids like orange juice for the vitamin c or Gatorade. Definitely make sure that you are also taking some pain reliever it might help and actually cure what’s going on. The most important thing of all would to get as much sleep as better, the more you sleep the better you’ll fee. But last if it gets worse I would advise to go to the doctor and get medicine to cure whatever it is that you have and not spread it.
Really though, who wants to be sick! You’re miserably stuck in your bed all day, with nothing to do, and you miss school and get behind. It is just not worth it and honestly a pain in the ass. Yes, you could have just been at the wrong place at the wrong time and caught something but next flu season be aware of your hygiene. Then you might not be a susceptible to becoming sick. (445)

..... trick or treaters

“Trick or treat”- says the cute little munchkins !
Halloween is right around the corner, and today me and my friend volunteered to help hand out candy and this big event that little kids come and trick or treat at. This event was filled with a ton of little children desperately opening their bags to get all the candy they can fit in their bags. It was very enjoyable and as I get older I enjoy handing candy out more and more. When dealing with all the munchkins though you can see many ups and downs, and when they are being all sneaky and then not so sneaky.
Handing out the candy is the easy part, you get to see all the cute little kids dressed up and sometimes they just look so cute you have to just smile and laugh, today though I saw some kids that had regular clothes on, I mean come on, Halloween is about getting all dressed up to receive endless amounts of candy and you can be anything you want without anyone judging you. Also when I hand out candy I like to see a costume so of course I’m going to give the kid crap, especially because the only kids that do it are teenagers that shouldn’t be doing it anyways, I mean I’ll definitely give you credit and candy for at least dressing up and being that old. So please when you go trick or treating DRESS UP!
Okay, secondly when it comes to the whole ordeal use your manners! You either have the kids that use their P’s and T’s very well and always looks so cute and friendly whether they get one piece of candy or five. But then you have the rude ones that grab and go and don’t even thank you for buying candy that I must add usually isn’t that cheap and handing it out. Especially when they come up and say “ewwww” I don’t like this kind, well suck it up, I don’t care what you like, I’m nice enough to even give you anything so enjoy it! Oh and I must address the whole only take one thing, if I say only take one…. ONLY TAKE ONE, I’m not stupid I can see you taking two or three pieces when I only said TAKE ONE, not a thousand, I have the bowl in my hand I and can see everything! I mean I understand if your 2 and you don’t really even know exactly what you’re doing, then I’ll let you take whatever because usually they are oh so cute.
Kids, kids, kids they will learn someday. Whether you’re a nice trick or treater or a rude one, think of whose giving you the candy and respect them, it that too much to ask! Sorry but some adults should teach their kids some manners. Anyways have a happy Halloween(: (484)

halloween horror

October is the month of Halloween, where there are numerous scary movies aired on television and on the big screens. This year though I have noticed a lot of new scary movies coming out… like Paranormal Activity 4, Sinister, The Possession, and The House at the End of the Street. All of which I have heard are extremely scary and recommended to watch. I went and saw The House at the End of the street last weekend, it was really good and I never felt confused at all, but it really wasn’t what I would paraphrase to be a “horror” movie, you might of jumped out of your seat a few times but it wasn’t scary, I would definitely recommend it though it was overall a good movie.
Horror movies are very popular, I don’t know if it’s because the sense that something bad is going to happen or because you get the over rated feeling of scarce throughout your body, yes you want to cover your face with your hands, yet you still peek through that one little spot to make sure you don’t miss anything important. Maybe you enjoy seeing all the guts and blood, and all that gory stuff for some odd reason that I can’t explain. Or maybe you just like the idea of them and are interested in the movie whole.
You don’t kind of like scary movies, you either really enjoy them or you absolutely hate everything about them. I personally can’t get enough of them, I love them and the whole being scared feeling, I mean in the end I usually don’t sleep very well that night, but it’s always worth it. But then you have the people that can’t stand them, and that can get so scared they cry, or that when you have a scary movie on all the lights have to be on. My mom doesn’t like them because she doesn’t like the fact that someone came up with the idea that is portrayed through the movie, she thinks there is something wrong with people that think of gross horror murderers and creatures. Everyone has their own opinion if you don’t like scary movies; watch the kid friendly scary movies, maybe you will enjoy them more.
October is filled with fright and fear, I highly recommend to go out and have a scary movie night and go watch one in the theaters, they are all very good this year, and happily there isn’t to much blood and guts! (418)

make everything count

Last weekend was the last home game for football of 2012-2013 season unless we go to playoffs (cross your fingers) . We happily won and it made me not able to wait until next season. Later that night I went to Pancheros with some friends, their ended up being some seniors there, talking about how sad they were because it was their last home game.
This really made me think, I am currently a junior which only means next year I will be a senior which means I have a year left of home football games! My friends and I just thought about how it all goes by so fast, next year after our last home game we will be the seniors saying how sad they are. My friends and I have always loved starting school each year because we look forward to getting way too decked and screaming our lungs out at the football games.
We decided that next year being seniors and all we will make every home game last! We will always cheer on our boys and make something of it even if we are losing, also we won’t leave half way through the game we will always stay all the way through! Being a senior has its up and downs, but in all reality makes you think about everything you took for granted through you school years, only to start fresh and new!
Which only means that my friends and I are going to try and make the best of our senior year, we want to do everything we can to make the year as memorable as possible. And yes that means getting as involved as we can and attending as much events as possible! I can’t wait for next year’s football season it will be a good one! I’m going to make it count. (309)

when is enough, enough?

Really you think it’s cool to come to a football game drunk & high. Sorry bud but it really isn’t that cool, maybe to you, but in reality you look like a total idiot! It seems like now days you see more and more high school teenagers drinking and getting “high”, but when is enough, enough?!
Some people think that it is fun to go to the school events under the influence, only to usually end up getting caught, and ending with a bad punishment, like public intoxication, or taking classes, and getting suspended from school for 5 days and even worse losing your license. Is it really worth that much just to have 2 hours of fun!? And for all of my fellow friends I can say it’s not funny it’s actually really annoying especially when you talk as if I’m on the other side of the football stadium. People don’t like you more if you do it; you just look stupid and annoying.
The worst part of it all is the fact the people doing these immature things are driving them self to and from the games possibly even with other, think of what could happen, they could kill some innocent victim because of their habits. Is it really worth going that far? What happens if you get pulled over when you’re drunk? I don’t think a DUI at the age of 16 looks very good on your record. I hope that at least some kids have smarter ways when they drink like possibly having a designated driver so they aren’t putting their life’s and other lives in danger, I’m not promoting teenage drinking I’m just saying there are ways to prevent some negative things from happening.
So my final question would be, do you feel sorry for the kid that gets in trouble at the game, the one that might get suspended or their license revoked and maybe even worse their stomach pumped? My answer would be NO! That person made the decision of being okay getting caught when they drank their first sip, maybe next time they will think twice! If you do drink and you’re in high school please just be a little responsible by maybe not driving or staying in one place, once again I’m not promoting teenage drinking by any means, but if you’re doing it, don’t just think about yourself think of everyone around you and what the horrible consequences could be. rainy days are good days

Rainy days have always been a favorite of mine; They are a perfect day to waste and do nothing productive, they are kind of like a lazy day. MY ideal rainy day would be just this:
You wake up to a dark filled room, only to think it would probably be best to go back to bed, so you end up snoozing for a few more hours to take advantage of the dark room. You then finally wake up and begin your day, you think that due to the weather outside, it would be the perfect day to stay indoors. You go get ready and think that you don’t have to look 100% because the rain will ruin your hair and or makeup in the end anyways. So you put your hair into a messy bun, with little make-up or none at all. Later when you’re choosing your outfit you choose your favorite sweat pants and you’re most relaxing t-shirt and don’t forget the warm cozy boots because come on who wants to be uncomfortable when it’s crappy outside. You then decide what you’re actually going to do all day….
Thoughts, thoughts, thoughts, there are so many things you could do, but of course you choose movie day with your closest friend or boyfriend. The two of you go rent as many movies as you can and of course stock up with as much food and candy as you can, especially chocolate and popcorn, then you can make your rainy day a depressing fat one to! You then get all cozy and warm and let the movies begin. As the movies are going you laugh and cry and really enjoy them. Then you decide your cold so you can cuddle up to the one you love! Then when all is over you yet again return to your bed for a good night’s sleep, and also to think of how productive you have been throughout the day!
This would be my perfect rainy day, not too much of anything, which sometimes can be everything! Let’s face it every day we are always going, and going and going. Sometimes you just need a break and rainy days are the way to go! So next time you wake up to a room full of darkness make it a lazy day, you won’t regret it! (392)

soon to be driver, its kinda sad

Being a junior, most teens have a cell phone, a job, and oh yah a car…. But not me, I am 16 and in about a month I will be 17 and I will not be driving until a month after. In Iowa you can get your permit when your 14, you have to be 16 to have a license but you have to have had your permit for at least 6 months and have gone through Drivers Ed. I waited sadly until I was 16 to get my permit and am currently going through Drivers Ed.

I have had a lot of people make fun of me for not getting it sooner, but I really don’t care. I don’t know exactly why I didn’t get it sooner but I just didn’t, it wasn’t at the top of my priority list. It’s not because I’m afraid to drive because I am not afraid at all; I have driven numerous times with my parents and older siblings.  Having my license will cause good things and bad things.

When I finally get my license I will be able to go do what I want, when I want, I won’t have to make plans in advance to get a ride, and I will never have to worry about not getting a ride or being late because of my ride. I will be able to drive myself to and from work and not have to wait 15 minutes after I get off to get a ride. Waiting is a big thing I will not miss, wherever I am and need a ride I always have to wait and I hate it! I also will no longer have to get dropped off and picked up by my parents, which at this point is honestly getting a little embarrassing.

Some things I am not looking forward to would be that I’ll have to pay for gas, and let me tell yah it’s expensive. Also I’ll have to leave earlier for things going on so that I have time to park, ect. With it being winter means cold and I don’t want to walk all the way to my car and be freezing but I’ll have to deal with it and suck it up.

I really should not be telling you why I don’t want my license? Who does that!? I know when I get my license I will be happy no matter what. (: (408)

fast, gross food, samething?

Okay, people have very different views on McDonalds, some love it and some want absolutely nothing to do with it. Yes, it is extremely unhealthy, and has lots and lots of calories in every delicious bite. I like it, but then I think about what I’m eating and that starts me make me not like it. I mean can you even call their meat “meat”?
I have had both good encounters with this place and bad, I don’t eat there much due to the fact that my parents despise their food and it’s really bad for you. Plus I really don’t know how someone can eat there more than at least twice a week, whenever I’m done with their food I feel greasy all over and over stuffed ending with a horrible stomach ache. But I’m not going to lie it tastes pretty good and it’s cheap.
In the past month McDonalds has started putting the calorie counts next to the food you’re going to order. This makes me especially not want to eat there often, I have to look at how much fat I’m putting in my body and that makes me want to eat somewhere else. This is probably really bad for McDonalds and possibly making people not eat there knowing exactly how much calories they are eating. People are being smart and not eating such unhealthy food, yet they are loosing customers. You could say it is a positive thing and a negative thing.
I hope that every fast food place is required to do this. People should not eat at these places on a regular basis, they basically support the obese.  We all know that about the obesity problem that is occurring throughout America today, this could have somewhat of a change for that. Not a huge one but at least a small one.
I’ve always thought that we should have healthy fast food. We already have cold cut sandwich chains like Subway and Quiznos, that has got to be 10x better for you then a greasy cooked burger. Everyone should think about what they eat before they eat it, maybe it will cause you to choose something different.
So this is what I advise you to do, next time you go to a fast food place, stop and think about what you’re about to eat. Think about what that could cause 10 years from then and how the food is made, ECT. Also take a look at all the calories you are about to eat and put into your body, do you really want to do that? And last think about how you will feel after you eat all that “great” food. (447)

fall has its downsides

A few blogs back, I posted about fall and how I loved it and all. That opinion is slowly changing at this very second, I mean yah I like it when it’s cool outside and the leaves changing colors and all because everything is just so pretty. But when it starts to get so cold I have to wear a coat, and then things freeze and I die, and everything just is so ugly and depressing. That makes me  not like fall as much as I normally do. This morning at the sound of my alarm clock, I was freezing, and by the time I went to bed that night, I was yet still freezing. Yes, I would rather be dripping sweat from the blazing sun then freezing my finger tips off.
Also when fall arrives, so does all the sickness’s, lately I have noticed a lot of people who are getting sick, or their allergies are kicking in. Germ-ex will be my best friend this year, because I am hoping and praying I don’t get sick. (Knock on wood) If you don’t want to get sick, you should go get the flu vaccine, it might prevent a very bad illness. And also help from spreading it as well.
The sun is starting to disappear as well, pretty soon it will be winter and we will have a few months of depressing cloud coverage. So as of right now I would take fall and enjoy the best parts. Hot chocolate with marshmallows of course, home-made chili on that windy chilly depressing day, and my personal favorite sitting by the fire and or fireplace relaxing and enjoying all the heat, fall has many great aspects, but come along are the icky ones, that no one really enjoys all that much. Stay warm iowa(: (303)

ewwww teeth

Everyone has at least one insecurity; mine would definitely be my teeth. When I look at person the first thing I look at is their teeth, I think it’s because mine are so messed up, but I always compare and or judge them. I think about what people think about my teeth a lot as well, let’s just say my teeth do not define me and I strongly dislike my teeth.

Let’s start off with saying that my teeth are the way they are because in 1st grade I got into a bike accident, I was launched off my bike and hit the pavement with my mouth first, therefore breaking my jaw. 1 day after my jaw was wired shut and 6 weeks later with it being wired shut, my teeth moved and looked tremendously different and yes it sucked a lot! Anyway when that was all over my teeth were not the same, I had a tooth behind some my front teeth. They felt different and of course had to look different.

My parents had to get one of my sisters braces, yet she got her’s on in fourth grade, when she got them off in sixth grade she was not fond of wearing her retainer and irresponsible and a few years later had to get braces again because her teeth had moved from her not wearing her retainer all the time. My parents were very mad because of how much money they spent on her teeth. Which made them wait until the end of my sophomore year to fix my teeth, they felt I was old enough to take good care of my teeth.

Happily I am now getting my teeth to become soon pretty and straight. With that comes pain though, right now I have a jaw expander and let me tell yah IT SUCKS! It hurts so bad, and the tooth that is behind my teeth is very visible and everyone is always like “omg, you have a tooth back there? What does it feel like? Does it hurt? No it doesn’t hurt and yes I know it’s there so shut up your annoying.

I’m not going to lie, I hate my teeth and I feel like they hold be back from things. I feel like even with braces I will look better, I can’t wait until I get my braces off though. I will be a completely different person. (404)

midterms 101

Midterms are kind of like a slap in the face. They tell you how you’re doing and show you that in a few weeks it will be the end of the trimester and finals. Being a high schooler you dread finals, they are stressful and hard and determine your final grade in the class or if you pass or not. Midterms aren’t as bad but can be stressful; here are some helpful ways to stay stress free for midterms and finals.
1.      DON’T GET BEHIND: getting behind is never a good thing, it drops your grade down and is hard to get back to getting things done on time. So the simple resolution is to just get it done on time and then you don’t have to worry about it. But that doesn’t mean you can make excuses about not getting it done because you had football practice or had to work, and ect. Most teachers are very understanding so they can help you and give you more time if you need it without it being late.
2.      BE THERE: absence though it may seem not that important it is! You miss the lesson the teacher teaches and you have a ton of makeup work in all of your classes, which can easily make you get behind and or confused in your class and not understand what is going on. I know that you can get sick and you really do need to stay home but it is your responsibility to get everything caught up with as soon as possible, the faster the better.
3.      PAY ATTENTION: yes, we all have those days where we are side tracked and not very focused but you need to try your best to stay focused, and yes some classes can be boring and long but pay attention so you can understand everything and get a good grade! Yes that does mean ask questions, no one’s going to make fun of you all they can do is help, asking questions helps you understand so you can focus better and in the end get a good grade.
4.      ORGANIZE YOUR TIME: do not wait until last minute to get your homework done, that basically forces you to do it fast and not really get and understand what is trying to be taught. Even your time out so you don’t have to wait until the last minute and you can have free time for other things.
5.      GET SLEEP: without sleep none of these things above will work, you will be tired in class and won’t pay much attention and when you do your homework you will not do it well, it is not smart to stay up until 1 on a school night, you should have a consistent bed times every night, so you will always be fully energized and focused.
Midterms can be stressful and so can finals so use these key things to help you get good grades in school and not be too stressed. (503)

cougar pride

Friday night, I was one happy cougar. Our football team at the start of the day was 0-5 and later 1-5. Everyone has been doubting the football team, because of their 5 games lost and none won, and they were just assuming we would lose Friday night, but they happily one with an outstanding score of 44-0. The football team came together and made all of us proud, and had a winning game on homecoming week!
The student section was great too; all my friends and I went kind of all out for this game, we put yellow and green handprints on our face and it was awesome. The student section was much crowed and we all were screaming cheers and helping the boys win. And no offence to the seniors, they actually did pretty good and cheered.
The last couple games it has been the juniors starting all the cheers and it has also been the juniors that stayed until the end of the game even if we lost. I think it’s ridiculous if you’re just going to leave at halftime if we’re losing that is horrible and think about how it affects the football players! In a recent blog I talked about the sophomores not wanting to move back either, this game it was the same. I was one of those people asking me to move back and the literately stood there and glared and just made me feel so stupid, it was very rude. But I didn’t let them ruin my night.
I am very proud of the football team and I am one happy cougar(: (269)

homecoming week, sayyyy whahh

That one week in the year that everyone can look silly without getting judged is homecoming week. This past week at my high school was homecoming, for those of you that have no idea of what that is…. It’s basically a week before your annual “homecoming dance” where you have random kinds of days that you dress up for to promote school spirit.
This year we had a week full of random days, Monday was lazy day. Everyone showed up in sweatpants and t-shirts, some people even had flannel pajama outfits, some had slippers, and others footie pajamas, which personally are my favorite because of the fact that you get to look like a 3 year old. Lazy day is my favorite because the whole day you are just so comfortable.
Tuesday was “crayola” day; each class had a color to wear. Seniors got to be black, junior’s white, sophomores yellow, and freshman green. This year I wasn’t very happy with crayola day because the colors weren’t very fun like neon or random color themes like that. They were just all kind of boring you could say.
Wednesday was twin day. Everyone found a friend and dressed exactly like them as if they were real twins. It was fun to see some of the wacky outfits that people came up with. Some people really did look like twins and you could easily accidentally mix them up… which is what I did… oops.
Thursday was cowboy day, now everyone was not happy with cowboy day they all thought it was lame and not a lot of people participated with it. I did and I wore my flannel with pride (: some people even dressed up as Indians, high school has never failed to make me laugh sometimes.
Last but not least Friday was spirit day which meant that later that night was the football game (: Spirit day was easy to dress for, I saw people who literately had their face painted green! I waited later that night for the football game for paint but props to them! They had major school spirit!
The dance. Yes that dance that every girl goes incredibly all out for, and yes it really does happen. The homecoming dance is always a big deal, you have to get the perfect dress with the perfect shoes and jewelry, your hair has to be perfect along with the nails. Let’s just say homecoming is a very expensive event that most girls spend way too much money for. The girl is usually the one that plans everything and makes everything perfect so that night they can feel beautiful and dance their hearts out.
Homecoming is one of my favorite times of the year; you only get 4 of them in high school, so make a memory of it. (470)

fall time is my favorite time

I think it’s safe to say that fall has arrived and summer has left. I love fall, it is by far my favorite season, a lot of things are changing and happening in the fall. All seasons have their differences but fall has the most change.
Fall time is full of cool air, and all the leaves changing colors. When it starts getting cold out bonfires start happening, I love going home at night with the smell of bonfire and the memory of a great time with friends. Also when the cold air comes so doe’s football games, I get to go watch them on Fridays with my friends and on Sundays with my family and cheer on my team.
Oh and we can’t forget fall fashion, jeans and boots(: I love warm clothes and big sweatshirts. Then right around the corner we have Halloween where we can pretend to be whatever we want (:
Fall is my favorite season, and describes almost all my favorite things. (167)

materialistic people....

We all know that one person who ALWAYS has to fit in. They always have the coolest phone and the most expensive outfit. Some of us try to fit up to their standards and others just don’t really care. But I always ask myself, why? What is the point of spending 200$ on a pair of jeans that you are only wearing to “fit in” what is the point of that? When maybe the jeans that you like only cost 20$. Materialistic people are everywhere now days and it is beginning to drive me insane.
If you are one of these people I feel sorry for you, I’m not trying to sound mean. But seriously you should wear what you WANT not what someone else wants. Having money doesn’t mean everything, you really don’t need to flaunt it that much, or brag about it to the max. It’s annoying and you sound stupid.
Now don’t think I’m telling you what to wear because I’m not. I personally have expensive jeans because I really liked them, but my whole wardrobe is not made up of all expensive jeans or shirts for that matter. I am not ashamed to say I shop at thrift stores, there is nothing wrong with them, and so what someone else has worn them, they are still the same clothing and still can be worn with just as much confidence. Also at the same time you are saving money, so WHAT A GOOD DEAL!
I want people to read this blog post and then go wear what they want to wear, because they want to wear it not someone else! Thank you. (276)

clean freak 101

If you know me, you know that I am a very organized and clean person. I think I have OCD about organization and cleanness but I don’t know for sure. I mean you’re probably thinking to yourself that I’m one of those crazy people from the TLC shows, but I promise you that I am not crazy; I just like things being a certain way and place. I also am not overboard about it, if it’s not perfect I don’t break down or cry and throw a huge fit, I move on.
When I wake up in the morning I have a routine, I’m sure almost everyone does. I wake up shower, get ready, then after I make sure my room is neat and in the right place, I like to make sure there is nothing on the ground and that everything is in its right place, like for instance my TV remotes, are in order and always on my nightstand. I make sure that on my dresser my earrings are all in the right place and all my perfumes (which is a TON) are in the right order. It’s not that bad though I mean if I’m in a rush to get to school I don’t do any of that, I just leave and later that day I come and fix everything. It is bad at night though because when I go to sleep everything has to be perfect or I just don’t feel right and then I can’t sleep.
When I say organization I mean it, in my room, in my backpack. Everything is organized, and when I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING. Even my closet is color coordinated. I feel that if things are organized you can find them easier witch in return makes life easier. If someone decides that they want to change my organization they will see me put it back to what it was like at first.
Cleanness. Where do I even begin, I like everything to be nice and clean cut. All my clothes have to be washed and clean. I also never leave my house without smelling delicious. Before I go to bed at night I wipe all my furniture tops with Clorox disinfectant wipes and I vacuum my room at least once a week. Okay, now when I read that over again in my head I seem above crazy but in my mind it’s just the right thing to do.
I guess it’s not the best thing to be crazy clean and organized, but it makes me feel better and that’s how it’s going to stay. Now on that note I have shared with you fellow readers a very secretive thing about me that not a lot of people know. Your welcome(: (461)

the wonderfull workforce

When I first turned 16 I wasn’t even thinking of having a job, but now 2 months before I turn 17 I gladly have a job. My mom was always constantly down my back about not having a job and learning how to have my own money… my thoughts on this were just that she wanted me to pay for everything. My mom at the time was my worst enemy.

Soon I went and applied for jobs, I think I filled out at least ten applications determined to get at least one call back, with the last place I turned in my application, I just knew it was the place, I got a call back that day. When I went in for my “Interview” I was scared to death, I didn’t know if what I was wearing was good enough or even what to say, when I talked with the manager though it just seemed so easy and the words just flowed out of my mouth, and I happily got hired. I am now a hostess at lone star, and I enjoy it.

I feel like having a job has actually taught me things, just like my mom said it would. I learn people skills and how to deal with the happy customers and then the bad ones. I also have learned a lot about responsibility and showing up to work on time and working my schedule around it. I also like having my OWN money to buy myself things and not have to 100% depend on my parents for things. Having a job is a good thing and I feel all teenagers should have one. You learn a lot of “street skills”, and yes sometimes it can be super stressful or busy, and I don’t get to hang out with my friends as much, but it’s all worth it in the end. (314)

sunday not funday

Sundays.       Yes I said it Sundays. That one day of the week that I dread more than Mondays. These days almost are like a slap back to reality, you have that nice 2 day break then bam you are back to getting ready for the work week ahead. Personally Sundays are my least favorite day of the week. If I had any say they just wouldn’t really be there, they would kind of just vanish away.
My mom refers to Sundays as her peaceful and relaxing day, if you are or know a teenager it is just that, it is more like the night you cram before a history or math test, or the night you realize you have a 3 page paper or project due the next day. I would consider it to more stressful than peaceful by far.
Now weekends are my favorite, you get a break from school and get to hang out with friends, for me I have a job and I usually work a double on Saturday and 10:30 to 2:00 Sunday morning, Friday nights I am usually with my friends and we don’t do much sleeping. So by Sunday all I want to do is relax and watch TV and watch all the Sunday football games all day but all I can do is homework. I mean some teachers are all like “you can do it Friday night or Saturday”, but who in their right mind would want to do it then? If I had it my way there just wouldn’t be any homework on weekends and people would be able to spend them however they choose, aka mainly sleeping. If I had it my way I guess I wouldn’t be complaining right now, would I?
It seems all adults love Sundays because of the fact that they generally do not have homework, so I guess I’ll just have to wait for my adult days for that night of relaxation. But for now, yes I do hate Sundays and no I don’t want homework on weekends.  Sincerely- high school teenager (347)
